Engineer Hasan Shabbir is an IT entrepreneur having 11 years of IT excellence in senior management positions under the umbrella of Aesthetic Technologies serving 700+ public/private clients and having offices in Islamabad, South Africa and Canada. Earlier, he had served in USAID, UNDP and Asian Development Bank. He is a programmer, developer, team leader, manager, director and above all, a problem solver.
Hasan is a big advocate of open source entrepreneurship culture where the youth could solve community problems at large and in the meanwhile earn future for themselves. He is working actively for Academia-Community-Industry linkages for the same cause. He is a public speaker on emerging technologies, open source development and entrepreneurial incubation of ICT ideas to change the world by best utilizing the true potential of youth. He has participated and delivered lectures in various conferences and seminars held in Pakistan, Philippines, South Africa, Austria, Switzerland and Paris. He is also the co-founder of Open Source Foundation of Pakistan.
He is now working on android platform to deliver some state of the art LBS apps.
While in USAID, he developed a series of websites and online apps to serve disaster hit areas and emerging media in Pakistan.
While in UNDP project SDPD (Strengthening Democracy through Parliamentary Development), Hasan had served to improve legislative process by the use of ICT Tools. From databases to IT infrastructure of Committee Rooms of National Assembly and Senate, Hasan always tried to work with perfection and that is truly reflected by the output.
While in Asian Development Bank, RETA6465 – Strengthening Asian Ombudsman Association, he developed online collaboration tools, knowledge base and online digital library to accommodate international best ombudsman practices that is still serving all Asian Ombudsman Association members.
As Chief Executive of Aesthetic Tech, he managed a team of dedicated IT professionals who built softwares, websites and apps for more than 700 clients.
Recently, Aesthetic Tech was actively involved in Development of Online Assembly Business Management System, an online tool to store all legislative and non-legislative assembly business. The first model has been deployed for Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. (www.pakp.gov.pk) Hasan’s dream project is Implementation of e-Parliament Systems in Pakistani parliaments by the best use of available open source technologies. Currently he is working on Bungeni 2.0 that is a Parliamentary and Legislative Information System that aims at making Parliaments more open and accessible to citizens … virtually allowing them ” inside Parliament” or “Bungeni” the Kiswahili word for “inside Parliament”. Bungeni is a collaborative software development initiative based on open standards, AKOMA NTOSO (www.akomantoso.org) and open source applications that provides a leading solution for drafting, managing, consolidating and publishing legislative and other parliamentary documents. Hasan’s dream is to integrate it with WordPress on CMS end instead of plone and bring in Open Source AT4AM for ALL, the web editor for amending legislation into the package. This will bring revolution in legislative drafting in the region. One component of the project is to introduce local languages (Urdu, Punjabi, Pashto, Sindhi and Balochi) as core draft languages along with english.
He started blogging through his email list of 25,000 friends and friends of friends in 2005 with his own name (hasanshabbir – google group) With the help of it, he tried to solve some problems of community like education financing, hospitalization of poors, job placements, small businesses incubation, disaster management, relief acquisition, social connections and business linkages. An archive of 9000 posts of it is available online.
As a social service, he is actively involved in helping young engineering graduates to acquire placement in industry. He is also facilitating students in various universities by mentoring them for their final year projects and acquire research opportunities ahead of their graduation.
He is also visiting faculty member for different academic institutions teaching Application Security, Software Development, Networks, Business, IT Entrepreneurship, Marketing and Management.
